| Mock Mass Casualty Drill at North Iredell Middle School a Success In the early morning hours of September 20, 2025, departments from across Iredell County came together for a large-scale mock mass casualty drill at North Iredell Middle School. The exercise simulated a major traffic accident along the interstate, testing responders with multiple patients, vehicle entrapments, overturned cars, and even vehicles stacked beneath others. Participants faced a wide range of challenges, each requiring teamwork, adaptability, and critical decision-making. The drill emphasized the importance of unified command, which allowed agencies to coordinate effectively and keep the incident running smoothly. While mistakes were made, they were valuable learning opportunities—precisely the purpose of this kind of training. By identifying areas for improvement, responders strengthen their readiness for real-world emergencies. What stood out most was the collaboration. Agencies worked side by side, learning how each other operates and striving to improve together. Despite temperatures nearing 90 degrees, every participant persevered with determination and professionalism. We extend our sincere gratitude to the agencies and organizations who took part: North Iredell Rescue Squad, Harmony Fire Department, Union Grove Fire Rescue, Central Fire Rescue, Iredell County ECOM, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Iredell County EMS, IMAP, Ultimate Towing, the administration from North Iredell Middle School, Kevin Imm Photography, Iredell Free News, Iredell County News and Weather, Chick-fil-A, and the community members who came out to show their support. To all who participated—great job. Your commitment, hard work, and dedication to improving emergency response should make you proud. I know I am. |
